Prophetic References to the Nature of Future Calamities

References by Nostradamus

1-34

When the eclipse of the sun shall be
At noon day, the monster shall be seen
It shall be interpreted other ways,
Then for a dearth because nobody hath provided for it.

This may refer to the eclipse of the sun on 9/3/1997 that was referred to above. It will occur near noon day (daylight saving time) in eastern Australia. At that time and from a suitable vantage point in Siberia, it will be possible to see comet Hale Bopp at near to its maximum size. Without the eclipse is won't be able to be seen in the sun's glare till some time later..

1-80

From the sixth bright celestial splendour
Shall come very great lightning to Burgundy
After which shall be born a monster of a most hideous beast,
In March, April, May and June shall be great quarrelling and muttering.

The sixth great celestial splendour is Jupiter. Hale Bopp came from the near vicinity of Jupiter. The solar eclipse of March 1997 seems to be referred to again.

1-91

The gods (ie the planets) shall make it appear to mankind,
That they are the authors of a great war,
The sky that was serene shall show sword and lance
On the left hand the affliction shall be greater.

Comets in the past have been visualised as being the cosmic sword of the Lord. Since they sometimes also exhibit a thin straight section of plasma, it is possible to also visualise them as cosmic lances of the gods.

2-46

After a great human change, another greater is near at hand,
The great motor reneweth the ages,
Rain, blood, milk, famine, sword, plague,
In the heavens shall be seen a running fire with long sparks

This appears to refer to a major turning point either heralded or initiated by a comet. A rain of blood could be caused by a fine powdery haematoid pigment. The rain of milk was referred to by Velikovsky with respect to traditions of the exodus. The sword can refer to either the comet or to actual war at the time.

2-62

Mabus shall come, and soon after shall die,
Of people and beasts shall be a horrible destruction,
Then on a sudden the vengeance shall be seen,
Blood, hand, thirst, famine, when the comet shall run.

This is basically reaffirmation of 2-46. The reference to a "hand" is apparently out of context, but it may refer to the astrological double quincux (or "hand of God" ) that occurs on 26/3/1997.

1-84

The Moon shall be obscured in the deepest darkness,
Her brother shall pass being of a ferruginous colour,
The great one long hidden under shadows,
Shall make his iron lukewarm in the bloody rain.

This may refer again to the lunar eclipse of 24/3/1 997, where we have a conjunction between red Mars and an eclipsed full moon. The bloody rain seems to also place the event at the time of unusual debris from the sky which seems to be compatible with comet Hale- Bopp.

2-47

The great and old enemy grieveth, dieth by poison
An infinite number of sovereigns conquered
It shall rain stones, they shall hide under rocks
In vain shall death assert articles.

This may be treating the comet Hale Bopp as the great and old enemy. If what has been deduced here is true, it would be hard to imagine a worse enemy than such a comet. About the only thing. which might poison it would be an influx of negative ions from the Sun or another of the planets.

2-70

The dart of heaven shall make his circuit,
Some die speaking, a great execution,
The stone in the tree, the fierce people humbled,
Human noise, a monster purged by expiation.

This seems to be a straightforward reference to a dangerous comet

2-41

The great star shall burn for the space of seven days,
A cloud shall make two suns appear
The big mastiff shall howl all night,
When a great Pope shall change his country.

The great star may be either Jupiter blazing when hit by a comet in July 1994, or else may refer to comet Hale Bopp. Since the dust cloud of Hale Bopp is almost twice as large as the sun, its illumination could make two suns appear.

2-81

By fire from heaven the city shall be almost burnt
The waters threaten another Deucalion,
Sardinia shall be vexed by a Phonecian fleet
After that Libra shall have left her Phaeton.

Phaeton refers to a past worldwide conflagration. Following this conflagration was the great flood of Deucalion. It is possible that these myths refer to events in about 1650 BC at the time of the Exodus. Such events seem destined for a time with the sun in Libra which is 22 September to 22 October for astrological Libra, but 23 October to 22 November for astronomical Libra.

EXTRACT From Nostradamus's Epistle to Henry II

"And before this shall precede a solar eclipse, the most dark and obscure since the creation of the world till the death and passion of Jesus Christ, and from then until now. There shall be in the month of October, a great revolution made, such that everyone will think that the Earth has lost its natural motion and gone down into perpetual darkness "

6-97

The heaven shall burn at five and forty degrees,
The fire shall come near the new city,
In an instant a great flame dispersed shall burst out,
When they shall make a trial of the Normans.

This prophecy seems to emphasise the 45 degree inclination of the axis of Hale Bopp's orbit to the plane of the ecliptic, and links it to apparent fire from the heavens.

6-96

Towards the North shall appear,
Not far from Cancer, a blazing star,
Suza, Sienna, Boetia, Eretrion
There shall die in Rome a great man, the night being past.

Suza was a former capital of Elam in ancient Sumeria, where knowledge would have been available with respect to a planet which crosses the solar system's plane of the ecliptic in the same manner as the Hale Bopp comet.. Siena is a city in Tuscany, Italy. Boetia was a region in ancient Greece, whose capital was Thebes. Eretrion may refer to Eritrea, or Ethiopia. Any connection between these four locations is unresolved, but may relate to the transmission of data from the past.

This prophecy appears to highlight the appearance in the northern hemisphere, near astronomical / astrological Cancer, a portentous comet. Comet Hale Bopp will occupy astrological Cancer in early May 1997. There is seeming confirmation from the following prophecy.

9-83

The sun being in the 20th of Taurus, the earth shall so quake,
That it shall fill and ruin the great theatre,
The air, the heaven and the earth shall be obscured and troubled,
That unbelievers shall call upon God and his saints.

What we do not know is whether Nostradamus refers to astrological or to astronomical Taurus. The former would refer to May 10th whereas the latter would refer to early June. In early May the comet Hale Bopp should pierce the plane of the ecliptic when it is on the cusp of the stellar constellations of Aires and Taurus, as seen from Earth, but at about 12 degrees of stellar Gemini, as seen from the geometric centre of the solar system, the Sun. The great theatre would seem to be the Colosseum in Rome, an edifice predicted to survive till the fall of Rome at the "end of times".

6/7/1991

July, then August, then begins
Upheavals that will threaten kings
And Arcane knowledge shall be shown
To tell the future as your 'phone

Present military activity with Iraq began at beginning of September 1996 28/1/1992

There is a secret on this Earth
That those who came from Royal Birth
And were dispersed in times unknown
Will shortly be restored to throne.

As "ANZAC" time's approached this year
You'll nod your head, you'll shed a tear,
For what you see of "Sad Hassein"
Will show you works are not in vain.

The Anzac time appears to refer to a year when certain individuals are restored to thrones. This would seem to place the time after at least some cosmic unrest, and after 1996

27/2/1990

Why doubt or fear if of Spirit you be?
If God judges you worthy, He'll give you the key.
"Close to" the tremors, the tilting of Earth,
"Close to" the prophets, a "Godly Rebirth".

10/3/1992

Wait till the Monday before the "cross"
Then you will see a world filled with dress
Heavens are opening wider now
Protection to those who are mine, I vow.

The astrological configurations of Monday 24/3/1997 may be referred to here. Easter Friday is Friday 28/3/1997.

19/3/1992

Halloween will be the time
To seek "reason" to "rhyme"
Many mourning, many dead,
Many living, full of dread.
Accidents and "Altered land"
Volcanoes and shifting sand
Sins uncovered one by one
People threatened by the guns.

Halloween is traditionally 31 October. In late October 1996 much insight was gained by the writer into aspects of the Hale Bopp riddle. At that time there certainly were many mourning and many dead.

25/8/1991

My sheep I'I1 gather at My door
Before this planet goes to war
But not a war with men who fight
But fireworks on the darkest night

This appears to refer to a massive meteor display. One seems certain in January 1998. But a promise is made to people of goodwill.

The Mother Shipton prophecies published by Nexus Magazine (May/June 1991) should not be ignored. They refer to a fiery dragon (comet) that crosses the sky (with the turning of Earth) for a total of six days before this world shall die. They refer to seven awesome days and nights of catastrophe. They then refer to further damage to earth caused by the dragon's tail. Relevant sections are now quoted.

A fiery dragon shall cross the sky
Six times before this world shall die.
Mankind will tremble and frightened be
for the sixth herald in this prophecy.

For seven days and seven nights
Man will watch this awesome sight
The tides will rise beyond their ken
To bight away the shores and then
The mountains will begin to roar
And earthquakes split the plain to shore.

And flooding waters rushing in
Will flood the lands in such a din
That mankind cowers in muddy fen
And snarls about his fellow men.

He bares his teeth and fights and kills
And secrets food in secret hills
And ugly in his fear he lies
To kill marauders, thieves and spies.

Man flees in terror from the floods
And kills and rapes and lies in blood
And spilling blood by mankind's hands
Will stain and bitter many lands.

And when the dragon's tail is gone
Man forgets, smiles, and carries on
To apply himself - too late, too late
For mankind has earned deserved fate.

His masked smile - his false grandeur
Will serve the gods, their anger stir,
And they will send the dragon back
To light the sky - his tail will crack
Upon the Earth and rend the Earth,
And man shall flee, king, Lord and serf.

Much of this horror comes from the deeds of man. The natural catastrophes are horrendous and unavoidable, but the manner in which we choose to deal with them is up to us. The prophecy suggests what mankind is likely to do, based on their behaviour in the past. It would be rather nice if this time, we chose to do something different, and surprised everybody. This ends the section on prophecy, both old and modern. Students of the Bible will be able to add much more, and many other sources also exist.
