William Eldridge was a labourer of Chilham, Kent England when he married Mary Ann Owen at Chilham on 30 Aug 1846. His father was Robert Eldridge, a labourer and her father was Thomas Owen, a waggoner.
On the 1851 census the couple and their son Thomas Ernest were living at Chilham and William was recorded as being a Part Pensioner Chelsea, born at Astonleigh, Kent, indicating he had served in the Army. In 1856 when his son Herbert John was born at Chilham he was shown as an agricultural labourer.
William died later in 1856 and his wife Mary Ann Eldridge is shown as a widowed dressmaker on the 1861 census at Chilham, living with four children. She later married married William Richard Barnes, a saddler and harness maker, in 1874 and she died in 1887.
