WILLIAM ELDRIDGE 1832-????


William Eldridge married Celia Crackett on 4 Aug 1850 at Challock, Kent, England. They were living with two children Harriet and William at Park Lane Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England when the 1881 census was taken. William was shown as a gardener aged 49 and born at Goudhurst, Kent and Celia was also shown as aged 49 and born at Pluckley, Kent. Their children Harriet and William were shown as aged 17 and 11 respectively and both were shown as being born at Great Chart, Kent. On the 1891 census William, a gardener and Celia were both shown as aged 59, living with their son William then a butler aged 21, at Woodstock. By the 1901 census William and Celia, then both aged 69, were living at Horsham, Sussex. Their children Emma, George Richard, Harriet and William are known to have migrated to Australia.

Emma and her husband Richard Marsden are mentioned in the 1918 will of Emma's brother George Richard as being of South Australia when he left part of his estate to their eldest son William Edward, his sole Executor. William Edward Marden was a grocer of Sydney, New South Wales when the will was proved in the Supreme Court of Tasmania on 18 Jul 1927.

George Richard Eldridge, a farmer of Carnarvon Tasmania, made a will on 12 May 1918. His wife Elizabeth had died at Hobart on 18 Jan 1918. He was still a farmer and was late of Carnarvon when he died on 10 Jun 1927. He left his estate to his nephew William Edward Marsden, eldest son of Richard and Emma Marsden of South Australia and his sisters Harriet Seex, of VIC and Celia Clark of London.

Harriet married Edward Seex on 9 Jan 1887 and the marriage was registered at West Ashford. Edward was a baker born at Hackney, Middlesex, England and he was living with his employer at 1 Circus Rd, St Marylebone, London on the 1881 census. They migrated to Australia, probably with their son William Edward and were in Tasmania for the birth of their son George on 3 Feb 1889 and daughter Harriet Celia on 11 Feb 1890. The family then moved to Victoria where a further three children were born. On the birth of their daughter Nina at Sydney Road, Coburg, VIC on 27 Apr 1896 Edward was shown as baker age 40 born London and Harriet as age 32 born Ashford, England. Edward died in 1921 at Prahran VIC and Harriet in 1940 at Caufield VIC aged 77 and her father was shown as William Eldridge.

William married Annie Farrell at the Holy Trinity Rectory, Yackandandah, Victoria on 21 Nov 1913. She was born at Bally McWard, County Galway, Ireland the daughter of John Farrell and Bridget Tyrrell. William was a licensed victualler of Wodonga VIC and on his marriage he is shown as age 40 born Ashford, Kent the son of William Eldridge, a gardener and Celia Marsden. He died at Wodonga in 1928 and Annie died at the District Hospital, Albury NSW on 22 Jun 1945. They did not have any children.
