William Upton
Jane Upton nee Eldridge
Frances Eldridge
William Eldridge married Mary Keble (or Keeble) on 23 Feb 1802 at Saint Leonards, Storeditch, London, England. It is thought that they had eleven children, the first three being baptised at St Mary, Marylebone Road, St Marylebone, London with the remainder at Saint James, Paddington, London. The 1841 census shows William was an Attorney's clerk.
Their son William was a Barrister and his widow Mary left an estate of over £21,000 in 1894 with much of it being bequested to a variety of Hospitals and other charitable organisations.
Their daughter Jane married William Upton on 24 Jun 1842 at Old Church, Saint Pancras, London. They emigrated from London to Launceston Tasmania on the brig Adelaide and arrived on 8 Nov 1842. Their first six children were born at Launceston prior to the family moving to Geelong Victoria in 1853 where their other three children were born.
Their daughter Frances also emigrated to Australia and she was the mother of Henry Eldridge, born on 12 Oct 1857 at Richmond VIC. He is thought to have migrated on 13 Oct 1884 to Dunedin, New Zealand.
Their great grandson Walter Ricketts Eldridge was born at St Pancras, London, England the son of Alfred Eldridge and Anna Susan Hutchings. Alfred was a builder like his father John and he lived with his parents at 55 Euston Road, St Pancras when the 1871 census was taken and he lived with his wife and children at the same address on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census.
Walter Ricketts was a drapers assistant when the 1901 census was taken and he migrated to Victoria, Australia on the Morea arriving in Aug 1910. He married Annie Susan Scott at Toorak, VIC when he was aged 70 and he died at 282 Domain Road, South Yarra, VIC on 7 Jan 1953 and was cremated on 8 Jan 1953 at Springvale Crematorium. He was show as a manufactueres agent on his death registration.
