Richard Eldridge was baptised at Ewhurst, Sussex, England on 1 Nov 1829. He married Frances Stevens in 1850 and they were living at Dunkirk, Kent when the 1851 census was taken. Their daughter Hannah died as a baby in May 1851 and Frances died in 1853.
Richard then married Sophia Ransom at the Chapel, Partridge Lane, Faversham, Kent, on 26 Oct 1853. They emigrated to Victoria, Australia as assisted migrants on the Tudor arriving in December 1854 with their infant daughter Hannah. Richard was shown as age 25 and Sophia as age 24. On the birth registration of their last child, Richard Charles Samuel born on 11 Jun 1871 at Phillips Flat, Ararat, Victoria, Richard is shown as a sawyer born at Sussex, England and Sophia as born at Kent, England. They are both shown as then being aged 42. The previous issue shows both Hannah and Emily as dead and appears to be in age order. The marriage registration for their daughter, Caroline Sophia, shows her birthplace as Creswick. Her younger siblings all had their births registered at Ararat VIC as was Richards death in 1887, aged 58. Sophia was shown as aged 62 when her death was registered at Horsham.
The husbands of their daughters Caroline Sophia and Ellen Harriett are both part of an apparently unrelated Eldridge family. Their son Richard Charles Samuel Eldridge migrated to the United States of America in 1895 and married Marie Martin in 1896 at New York.
