JOHN ADAMS ELDRIDGE 1815-1905

John Adams Eldridge was baptised on 31 Mar 1815 at Oxford St Mary Magdalene, Oxfordshire, England the youngest son of Samuel and Isabella.

John matriculated at Worcester College, Oxford on 3 Nov 1836 aged 21. The Clergy List of 1897 shows he became a Deacon in 1841 and a Priest in 1842 and that he was curate of Bridlington, Yorkshire, 1841-3; Sigglesthorne, Yorkshire, 1843-7; incumbent of Sutton, Hull, Yorkshire 1847-57 and vicar from 1857, of Bishop Wilton, Yorkshire.

He married Alice Ann Westerdale King on 1 Feb 1844 at Hornsea, York and they had one child, John Robert Westerdale Eldridge, who became a solicitor.

Both Alice and John died at Bishop Wilton, Yorkshire. Alice died aged 66 in 1876 and John lived to age 90 when he died in 1905.

Charles Young Eldridge, John's older brother, was an Inland Revenue Officer who died as a young man in 1851. His wife Emma Louisa Etty remarried in 1855 to John Henry Pearce, a Veterinary Surgeon.

It is thought that Samuel Eldridge, the father of Charles and John, is connected to the descendents of Thomas Eldridge, however the connection is not known.
